Maryville University of Saint Louis

The Physical Therapy program at Maryville University of Saint Louis is primarily an early assurance program and accepts most of its students directly from high school into a 6-year BS/DPT degree pathway.  The Department of Physical Therapy at Maryville University does not anticipate that there will be any open seats available in the DPT class for college transfer students or graduates during the 2019-20 admissions cycle.  The DPT program may; however, have seats in the future.  Prospective students are encouraged to visit the DPT program website for updated information.

Program Description more...

Maryville University offers a six-year, early assurance DPT program. Maryville University does not accept transfer students. Students with a BS degree are therefore best served by a pure graduate level program at another institution. It is not possible to enter the graduate portion of the program regardless of previous credits or degrees earned.

Through academic and clinical education, students learn the basic and applied health sciences and gain competence in skills required for the professional physical therapist. Students complete 40 weeks on clinical rotations where they are expected to accept responsibility in the examination and treatment of patients/clients in a variety of clinical settings under the supervision of a qualified physical therapist. Successful completion of the program does not guarantee that an individual will pass the licensure exam and practice as a physical therapist.

Candidates must pass a state-administered national exam after graduation. Other requirements for physical therapy practice vary from state-to-state according to physical therapy practice acts or state regulations governing physical therapy. A state board may refuse to issue a license for specific reasons related to moral turpitude, intemperate use of alcohol or drugs, or conviction of a crime. Maryville's physical therapy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) of the American Physical Therapy Association.
