Program Description more...

Old Dominion University's School of Physical Therapy has been successfully educating physical therapists for more than 35 years and we are confident that our program is one of the best in the country. ODU graduates are well known for their excellent clinical skills and ability to work as part of a patient care team from the moment they start their first job.

We teach evidence-based practice. We emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving in small group discussions and experiences. We believe that life-long learning is necessary for effective practice and a satisfying career.

ODU provides sessions with standardized patients - actors trained to portray various patient problems. When you work with a standardized patient you receive feedback on your performance to help you develop excellent interpersonal skills and become the best therapist possible. We maintain a ratio of 1 instructor for every 10 students in laboratory settings so that students get the individualized attention that they need. We have a state-of-the-art research laboratory with dynamic, funded research projects in movement analysis and stroke rehabilitation. We have an on-campus clinic where students can observe and assist in a dynamic out-patient practice.
