Program Description more...

The Entry Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Texas Woman's University's is consistently ranked among the top graduate programs in the United States. We are a co-ed public university. The Entry DPT is offered on both the Dallas, TX and Houston, TX locations. Our program has a one time start in the fall (late August) on both campuses every year. We accept approximately 54 students to each campus. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in their overall, last 60 hours and prerequisite GPA's. Prerequisite courses do not need to be completed to apply; however it is preferred to have less than 3 outstanding at the time of application. All prerequisites must be completed prior to our program starting in August 2020. Competitive GRE scores are required along with a minimum of 80 (40 in two different facilities) observation/volunteer/ or work hours in the physical therapy field. Applicants must have a minimum of 40 hours of inpatient and 40 hours of outpatient verified experiences.

An offer of admission to the program is contingent upon admission to the Graduate School (supplemental application, transcripts and GRE scores to TWU and $50 fee).

TWU is one of four universities in the US to offer the PhD in physical therapy (beyond the DPT) for those interested in teaching or conducting research. We also offer a fast track option to our enrolled students from the DPT to the PhD.

Observation Hours

So you can be optimally informed about the profession, you must obtain direct contact with physical therapists in practice. Direct interaction with physical therapists will allow you to learn about the profession and issues facing it (both good and bad).

* You must have observation, volunteer, or paid work experience in at least 2 physical therapy settings (e.g., acute care, rehabilitation, geriatrics, burn/ wound care, etc.), with at least 40 hours in inpatient and 40 hours in outpatient. The committee prefers your hours to be verified online via PTCAS.

* For a physical therapy experience in a particular setting to be counted requires a minimum of 40 hours before requesting a recommendation.

* You must complete a total of at least 80 hours.

* You must complete hours in both inpatient and outpatient environments. Having more hours with a variety of environments will be considered favorably, as it implies you have made a greater effort to explore this profession in making your career choice.

Also, see TWU's PT reference requirements above.
